- Dark-skinned – Go for gold and nude pink lipsticks.
- Moderate-skinned – Lipsticks in muted shades will come out good. Go for bland pinks and that in brown shade.
- Pale & Fair skinned – Light and glossy lipstick shades will be perfect. Go for baby pinks and reds.
- Olive skin – Go for brownish red, light brown and raisin lipstick shades.
Generally, you should go for lipstick in shades that compliment the natural shade of your lips and general skin. Applying lipstick is a technique that you need to learn. Doing so will enable you obtain a perfect pout that will be appreciated by everyone. You need various items for the application:

- Facial tissues
- Lip gloss
- Lip brush
- Lip liners
It is important that you prepare the surface on which you apply lipstick. Exfoliating your lips is therefore necessary. Scrub your lips using a toothbrush before applying a paste of sugar. Leave the paste on for about 30 seconds before rinsing and applying Vaseline jelly. Wipe the jelly off after some minutes. Using the lipstick liner, outline your lips by drawing the line from the outside. Apply your lipstick by initially making one or two swipes across the top and bottom lips. Look in the mirror and if the swipes look appropriate, apply a little of the lipstick. Ensure that you only apply a reasonable amount; otherwise you will end up with greasy unattractive lips. Using lipstick tissue, blot your lips before applying gloss. Note that if yours skin tone gives you the option of wearing various lipstick shades, you need not wear the same lipstick everyday. Wear different shades interchangeably.
