6 Facts About Food Hygiene

Are you aware enough of the safety and hygiene of foods you consume everyday? Here are some serious food hygiene issues that are often ignored and results into severe health disorders. Have a look:

Use different cutting boards

Stop making serious blunders by using the same chopping boards for fresh or already cooked vegetables and raw fish, poultry and meat as bacteria from raw items will contaminate fresh as well as cooked food. Either keep two cutting boards handy, or wash the board carefully after cutting uncooked items each time.

Avoid high temperature cooking

Do you love to prepare foods at extremely high temperatures? Hold on. It can be risky for your loved ones! It is proved that regular consumption of high-heat-treated foods can trigger a number of health related issues such as cell deficit, digestive disorders and toxicity etc. as they stay undigested within the stomach for a long time. Hence, try some different methods of cooking in which foods would not be exposed to full flame.

Defrost food products properly

You are going to host a party in your house and getting ready for this. So, you take the frozen meat out of your refrigerator and just place it on the kitchen counter to let it defrost by itself. Well, it might help you in managing your time efficiently, but you will be putting your family as well as your guests at the risk for bacterial infection. Raw and frozen food items can easily get contaminated if kept open for long. When the external surfaces get defrosted and attain 40 – 140 degree F, bacteria present on those surfaces also start to get multiplied rapidly and those outer surfaces become infected even while the inner stratums are still getting defrosted. To avoid the issue, put the items in sealed plastic bags and place in cold water (the water should be altered each half an hour), or simply use microwave to get them back at normal temperature.

Control frequent temperature fluctuations in refrigerator

The temperature inside a refrigerator fluctuates a lot due to several reasons and the door of the refrigerator seems to be the most affected region. Whatever the situation is, do not let it pass 40 degree F as it will leave all items inside the refrigerator at the risk of severe rotting. A refrigerator thermometer will make your task easy by helping you measure and control the inner temperature accordingly. Moreover, put unpreserved items such as fish, meat and poultry at the back of the refrigerator where it is generally chilly rather than keeping them at the front or on the doors.

Use proper microwave containers

Microwave is an indispensable part of your day-to-day life and you just cannot think without it, right? Well, complain is not against the microwave rather it is against the types of containers, used for heating foods in it. Styrofoam cups, coffee paper cups and certain plastic food vessels containing plastic hardeners are not intended to be used in microwaves as they release several chemicals into the food when heated in the microwave and cause hormonal imbalance, leading to infertility, cancer etc. Stop heating foods in containers, boxes or wrap ups that are specifically not designed for microwave use.

Check foods after a recall announcement

So there is a food recall announcement and you are still to check your refrigerator to make it sure that there is no such products specified in the announcement, is it? When certain food items seem to be capable of causing epidemics, they are recalled right away in order to stop the contamination from spreading. Be a proactive and remove such recalled products from your refrigerator to protect other foods present in the refrigerator from being contaminated.
