Coping with pregnancy symptoms, which can be very stressful and eventually losing it due to miscarriage is not only stressful but can leave you emotionally and physically drained. Although you may want to attain another pregnancy soon after, doing so is not appropriate. Note that pregnancy takes a toll on your body and losing it requires that you give your body time to rejuvenate and regain lost energy.
Talk to Health Care Provider
Apart from giving your body time to regain lost energy, your mind needs to recover from the miscarriage experience. This is the best time to work closely with your doctor to establish the nature of your miscarriage so that any causative factors can be addressed. Working closely with your doctor is especially necessary in case you have had other miscarriages in the past. Your doctor will be in a good position to refer you to varied medical specialists such as those specializing in maternal-fetal medicine, genetics and reproductive endocrinology. These professionals will be able to provide you with the best treatment to increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy that you will eventually be able to carry to term.
Stay Calm & Family Support
Apart from receiving the best treatment possible, you will need to have a peaceful mind without any worries of experiencing another miscarriage once you attain another pregnancy. You will need emotional support as much as possible. While medical professionals will obviously try to counsel you, support from your partner, family members and friends will be crucial. It is through such support that you will develop confidence necessary to carry pregnancy to term.
Delay another Pregnancy
Another important reason why you need to delay attaining another pregnancy soon after miscarrying is to give the uterus ample time to heal. Note that the uterus enlarges and it takes time for it to revert to its normal state. The endometrial lining of the uterus also need time to be strong and healthy again. Attaining another pregnancy before the endometrial lining becomes strong enough to support the same simply leads to a repeat miscarriage.
Emotional Support & Counseling
Once miscarriage causative factors have been addressed and emotional support provided, you should try to conceive after two or three menstrual cycles. Medical professionals however advice couples to wait for at least six months before attempting for another pregnancy. This is however not mandatory; you can attempt for another pregnancy when you are sure that you have received proper treatment including emotional support and that your body is physically strong to support another pregnancy.
The emotional support you receive after a miscarriage should not be limited. Note that you will still need a lot of support after attaining another pregnancy. It is obvious that a miscarriage thought will still linger at the back of your mind and create fear in you. This fear can easily cause another miscarriage. This is why you will need emotional support especially during the first trimester. You will also need to take precautionary measures to ensure that you do not suffer another miscarriage. You will need your pregnancy to be monitored closely by your doctor. Depending on the cause of earlier miscarriage, you may need to undergo various medical tests in the course of your pregnancy.
