Recipe – Hot and Spicy Chinese Chopsuey

Have you tried Chopsuey ever? It is a complete Chinese dish that does not need anything else with it to relish. The following recipe of Chinese Chopsuey contains nutritious vegetables, fresh sprouts and spicy sauce with boiled as well as fried noodles.

 Here it is:


For the sauce

Cornflour – 2 tablespoons

Tomato puree – 1 cup

Tomato ketchup – 4 tablespoons

Soy sauce – 1 tablespoon

Vinegar – (1/4) cup

Sugar – (1/2) cup

Black pepper powder – (1/2) teaspoon

Salt (according to taste)

For the Chopsuey

Cabbage – 450 grams

Boiled noodles – 1 cup

Fried noodles – 2 cups

Mushrooms – 10-12 pieces

French beans – 10-12 pieces

Bean sprouts – 100 grams

Carrots – 2

Onions – 3 large

Ajinomoto – (1/4) teaspoon

Refined oil – 4 tablespoon

Chili sauce – 1 teaspoon

Salt (according to taste)

Preparation of the sauce

The preparation of Chinese Chopsuey actually starts with the preparation of the sauce. At first, take a pan with a thick base. Put all the ingredients taken for the sauce, such as corn flour, black pepper powder, soy sauce, vinegar, tomato ketchup, tomato puree, sugar and salt into that pan one by one. Now blend all the ingredients properly so that they get mixed well. Light the oven and put the pan with the mixture on the flame to boil it. Stir thoroughly so that no lumps are formed during the boiling. Once done, just lower the flame and leave it simmer for 5 minutes. After that, take the pan out of the oven and place aside.

Preparation of the Chopsuey

Now, it is the time for the preparation of the Chopsuey. Firstly, take the cabbage and shred it very finely and carefully. Peel off the onions and chop them. Clean the french beans as well as the carrots properly and cut them into long and thin strips. Also, wash the mushrooms and slice them. Finally, take some water in a vessel and put the bean sprouts into that. When they will get boiled, drain away the water and keep aside.

Now, take a skillet, pour some refined oil in that and let it get hot. After sometime, put the chopped onions in the hot oil and stir fry till they appear translucent. Put the sliced mushrooms also and cook again until all the contents of the skillet become tender. Now, add the strips of carrots and french beans to that and cook on high flame. After 2-3 minutes, add the minced cabbage and boiled bean sprouts to the entire mixture of the skillet. Now cook the whole thing. Remember, the vegetables need to be tender but must remain a little bit crunchy too.

When the vegetables are cooked properly, take it out of the heat and dust the ajinomoto on it to add extra flavor. Pour the sauce you have already prepared on the cooked vegetables. Also, add salt, chili sauce and some more black pepper powder to that.

Your Chinese Chopsuey is almost ready now. Take a large serving dish and spread some plain boiled noodles on it. Again, spread half of the fried noodles just on those boiled noodles. You can also prepare fried noodles easily at your home. Just put some plain boiled noodles into hot oil and deep fry them and your fried noodles will be ready. However, pour the hot mixture of the sauce and the vegetables on the noodles. And finally, garnish with the rest of the fried noodles. Serve your tongue tickling Chopsuey and get admired!
